Window Signs and Decals for Business: Options and Pricing

window signs and decals for business

Business window signs are the cheapest square footage you will ever advertise on. You already own the glass. A few cut vinyl letters, a logo decal, or a printed window film turns a blank storefront into a sign that works all day and all night. If you are searching for window signs for business near me, here is what your options are and what they tend to cost.

There are four main types: cut vinyl lettering, printed decals, perforated window film, and frosted or etched style vinyl. Cut vinyl for hours and a phone number can run under a hundred dollars. A full window of printed perforated film can run several hundred. Your quote depends on size, quantity and material.

We print and cut window graphics here in Vancouver, WA and install them around Clark County and the Portland metro. Keep reading for the details, or send us a photo of your windows and we will suggest a plan.

What kinds of business window signs are there?

Each type does a different job. Most storefronts end up with two or three of them working together.

How much do window signs for business cost?

These are typical industry ranges, not our price list. They will get you in the neighborhood.

TypeTypical rangeGood for
Cut vinyl hoursUnder $100Doors
Logo decal$50 to $200Main window
Perforated filmSeveral hundredBig windows
Frosted vinyl$100 to several hundredPrivacy

What moves the number: the total square footage, how many colors, whether it is cut or printed, and whether you want us to install it. A single door with hours is a quick job. A row of five windows with printed film is a bigger project but still costs far less than a lit sign. Your quote depends on size, quantity and material.

What should I put on my storefront windows?

Less than you think. The best windows answer three questions fast: who are you, what do you do, and when are you open. Here is a layout that works for most shops.

Skip long paragraphs and tiny text. Nobody reads a window from the sidewalk. If you want to see how windows fit with the rest of a storefront, our storefront sign guide for new retail shops lays out the whole front of the building.

Inside or outside the glass?

This question comes up on every job. Both work, and the right answer depends on the graphic.

Outside mount puts the vinyl on the exterior face of the glass. Colors look the brightest because there is no glass between the graphic and the viewer. Perforated film has to go outside so the holes face the viewer. The trade off is weather and the occasional scrape.

Inside mount puts the vinyl on the inside face, printed in reverse so it reads correctly from the street. It is protected from rain, pressure washers and vandals. Colors look a touch softer through the glass, and tinted windows can dull them more. For hours and simple lettering in a rainy climate, inside mount is a smart default. We will tell you which one fits your window when you quote.

How long do window decals last?

Good quality cut vinyl on the inside of a window can last many years. Printed graphics outside typically last several years before the colors start to soften, longer with a laminate, which is a clear protective layer over the print. Perforated film is usually rated for a few years outdoors. Static clings are meant for weeks or months, not years.

Removal is simple. Vinyl peels off with a little heat from a hair dryer, and any leftover glue comes off with a standard adhesive remover. That makes window graphics a nice choice for a leased space, because you can take it all down when you move without damaging anything.

Signs for business windows in Pacific Northwest weather

Rain is the main thing to plan for around Vancouver and Portland. Installing vinyl needs a dry surface and a mild temperature, so outdoor installs in the middle of a wet January can wait for a dry window or move to the inside of the glass. Moss and grime build up on glass here, so clean windows well before any install and wipe them down a few times a year after.

Grey winter light also matters. Light colored vinyl like white, yellow and light grey reads best against a dark interior on a cloudy day. Dark vinyl on a window with a dark room behind it can disappear from the sidewalk. If your interior is dark, add a white outline or pick a lighter color.

Window graphics for offices, not just shops

Retail gets the attention, but offices use window vinyl just as much. A suite number and company name on the entry glass, a frosted band across a conference room, a logo on the lobby partition. These are small jobs that make a space feel finished. Pair the window work with a matching custom door sign and your entry looks like one planned design instead of a few add ons.

Real estate offices, dental practices, gyms and restaurants are our most common window customers. If you run a restaurant, our page on printing for restaurants covers menus, window hours and promo graphics together.

Questions people ask

Can I install window decals myself?

Small cut vinyl like hours and a phone number, yes. We send it on transfer tape with simple steps. Larger logos and any perforated film are much easier with a second person and some practice, so most people have us install those. Ask when you quote.

Do window signs need a permit?

Many cities count window graphics toward your total allowed sign area and some limit how much of the glass you can cover. Rules vary by city and zoning. Check with your local planning office or ask us and we will point you to the right contact.

Will vinyl damage the glass or leave residue?

No. Quality vinyl comes off clean with a little heat, and any sticky spots wipe away with adhesive remover. It does not etch or scratch the glass. That is why landlords generally allow it.

Can I see out through a full window graphic?

Yes, with perforated film. The tiny holes let you see out from inside while people outside see the printed image. It also cuts glare and heat from afternoon sun. Standard solid vinyl blocks the view, so use it for logos and lettering rather than full coverage.

How fast can I get window graphics?

Cut vinyl and printed decals are usually a few business days after you approve the proof. Installation is scheduled around dry weather. Confirm current turnaround when you quote.
